Privacy Policy
Effective October 25, 2026
The short version
- There are no accounts. Your trips, lists, cruise card, game scores and photos stay on your phone.
- The free version shows a small Google AdMob ad bar. Google may collect device information to show and measure ads.
- Purchases (Remove ads, tips) are handled by Google Play or the App Store. We never see your card details.
- We don't sell your information.
Who we are
Shipshape is an app for counting down to a cruise and planning the trip, made by Rohrback Studio, an independent developer in California, USA. This policy explains what information the app uses and why. It applies to the Shipshape apps for Android and iPhone.
Information that stays on your phone
Everything you enter is saved only on your device, inside the app. This includes:
- Your cruise dates, ports, times, ship, cabin number and cruise card details
- Packing lists, to-dos, plans, notes, budget, logbook and travel party details, including any emergency or travel insurance information you type in
- Ship Quest players and scores, and Photo Hunt photos you take or choose
- Your theme, widget and settings choices
We have no server that receives this information, and we can't see it. If you delete the app, this information is deleted with it, unless you saved a backup.
Features you choose to use
- Backups. When you tap Back up, the app makes a file and opens your phone's share menu. The file goes wherever you choose (for example Google Drive, iCloud, a drive at home or your email). We don't receive it.
- Sharing a cruise. When you share a cruise with family, its itinerary, card and list details go into a link or code that you send yourself. Photos, drinks and scores aren't included.
- Pasting your booking. Itinerary text you paste is read on your phone to fill in your trip. It isn't sent anywhere.
- Camera and photos. Used only when you take or pick a photo (Photo Hunt, trip badge, countdown photo, lock screen picture). Photos are copied into the app's own storage on your phone.
- Notifications. All-aboard alarms, countdown reminders and the optional "If found" lock screen notice are scheduled on your phone. No notification servers are used.
- Motion. If you shake your phone, the app offers to report a problem. Motion data isn't stored or sent.
- Problem reports. If you send a report, it opens an email in your own mail app, addressed to us, with your description and basic technical details (app version, phone model, the screen you were on and any recent error message). Nothing is sent until you press Send in your mail app.
Port weather
To show the forecast for upcoming port days, the app asks the free weather service Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) for the forecast at each port's map location and dates. The request contains only the port locations and dates, not who you are. You can turn Port weather off in Style → Make it yours.
Ads
The free version shows one small banner ad from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect and use information such as your device's advertising ID, IP address, and app and device details, as described in Google's policy: How Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- Shipshape asks for non-personalized ads and a family-friendly (G) ad rating, and blocks categories such as gambling, alcohol and dating.
- Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the UK and some US states), the app shows Google's consent form before ads load. You can change your choice any time in Style → Remove ads → Privacy & ad choices.
- You can reset or limit your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
- Removing ads turns the ad bar off completely.
Purchases
Remove ads and tips are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store under their own terms and privacy policies. We receive only a confirmation that a purchase was made, never your payment details. Activation codes are checked on your phone.
Children
Shipshape is made for adults planning a trip, which families enjoy together. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Ship Quest player names are typed by the person holding the phone and stay on that phone.
Selling and sharing
We don't sell your personal information. Apart from Google's ad service described above, the app doesn't share information with anyone.
Your choices
- Turn features on or off in Style → Make it yours.
- Change ad privacy choices in Style → Remove ads → Privacy & ad choices.
- Clear a cruise in Style → Trip, or delete everything by uninstalling the app.
- Allow or deny camera, photos and notifications in your phone's settings at any time.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date. Big changes will also be mentioned in the app's update notes.
